With the help of WSE, .NET Framework developers can incorporate the features such as security, routing, and attachment in their Web services applications. WSE sits on top of the .NET Framework and allows developers to implement the latest Web services protocols including
1. WS-Security
2. WS-Routing
3. WS-Attachments
and
4. DIME
in their XML Web services applications. The Web Services Enhancements for Microsoft .NET is in an evolution process to keep in touch with the latest Web services advancements. Once these advancements gain broad adoption and mature, they will be wrapped up into the .NET Framework and Visual Studio. Please beware that the future versions of the WSE may not be backward compatible. Web Services Enhancements (WSE) 1.0 Service Pack 1 for Microsoft .NET (Provides security, scalability, and performance enhancements.) **Recommended Upgrade**

Microsoft releases the Web Services Enhancements (WSE) 1.0 Service Pack 1 for Microsoft .NET on 3/3/2003. This release has performance, scalability and security updates for the WSE add-on download. This service pack is binary compatible with WSE 1.0 and does not require code changes to your existing WSE 1.0 applications to upgrade. It is recommended that you upgrade to WSE 1.0 SP1 if you are working with WSE 1.0 or any WSE technology previews. Before installing this service pack, it is recommended that you uninstall 1.0.
