1 p 13 As Pinterest grows, it evolves. But for the time being, setting up an account on Pinterest is still a bit sketchy. To start, one has to request an invite. This might sound intimidating, but it is a small formality preceding full use of the site. Think of it as asking for an invitation to a party that your best friend already invited
you to.
On the home page, there is a module near the top of the page indicating where to click to request an invitation (see Figure 1.4). After you click it, you are taken to a page where you can enter your information to request an invitation. Permission to join is typically sent within a few days of the initial request. Click on the link that Pinterest provides in the email to create your account. Now is when you separate yourself as a business user from a normal Pinterest user.
Figure 1.4The first time you visit Pinterest, you should see this welcoming yellow bar.
You need to designate an email address that you want to have as your Pinterest business email address (see Figure 1.5). Perhaps setting up a business-specific address for your Pinterest can help separate your social networks. But, it is highly recommended that you link your Pinterest account directly with the email address used to set up your Twitter business account.
Back in the old days, you had to apply for a Pinterest invite, or hope one of your hip pinning friends would gift you onw, No more! Now you simply click the “Join Pinterest” button on Pinterest’s home page (see Figure 1.4) then sign up with your Facebook, Twitter, or email account (see Figure 1.5).
It’s a great idea to connect your business’ Facebook or Twitter to your Pinterest account: it allows for easier sharing between social media services, and it’s good practice to get your messages out as much as possible. If you don’t already have a Facebook or Twitter account for your business, close this book and set one up. Seriously. We’ll wait.

1 p 14 If you don’t have a business account for Twitter (www.twitter.com), close this book and go set one up. We can wait for you when you get back. Otherwise, it is smart to directly link your Pinterest account to your Twitter business account.
This process might seem counterintuitive to current social media trends, which revolve around using Facebook as the central hub for administering your campaigns, but that is part of the allure that makes Pinterest attractive.
