CD-ROM UPDATE: 7-21-97

The following error message appears when opening drawing files from Chapters 4, 5, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18, 19: "Drawing file was created by an incompatible version."

The files are incompatible because many of them were created with a pre-release of the product used for testing, which isn't compatible with the final release. Our authors and technical editors checked all the files to make sure nothing had changed between pre- and final releases; however, if there were no changes, many times the files were not resaved in the final release. This causes the problems we are encountering. Fortunately, there is an easy solution.

Rather than supplying all of the corrected files, we are instructing readers to recover the files. This is very simple to do and takes a lot less time than downloading files.

Instructions for recovering drawing files:

1. Type "RECOVER" at the AutoCAD command line. A Select File dialog box appears.

2. Select the drawing to be used. AutoCAD will automatically recover it.

3. Resave the recovered drawing. From this point on, the file will open as a compatible drawing.

CD-ROM UPDATE: 10-2-97

If the RECOVER command discussed above does not correctly restore the files, you can download replacement files (in Zipped format) below.

Chapter 26 corrections

Some readers have encountered problems setting up the External Database Configuration as specifed on pages 797-798. The instructions intended readers to copy the file to their local hard drive. In the example, the d: drive as used as the local drive. The file and directory can be created or copied in any directory.

Here's the procedure to follow:

1. Create a new directory in your system, d:\proj18\facmgmt, where d: is your local drive (or c: in most systems)

2. From the cd-rom in sub-directory \ch26, copy the file "bldg18.dbf" to d:\proj18\facmgmt.

3. Follow the remaining steps in page 797-798

An additional file, bldg18.dwg, is needed for the exercise and can be downloaded below.

There is a typo in Step No. 5 (page 800) where it asks you to type "Asset No.". It should be "ASSET_NO", one word, with the underscore as shown in Figure 26.23.

ASE will not allow you a create a link path name with more than one word. If you type "Asset No", you will get the error message "Invalid Link Path Name."
