I've worked with more than one database system, as I'm sure many of you have as well. It seems to be common among Microsoft SQL Server DBAs to have done that.
But many of my friends who work with Oracle have only ever done that. This kind of makes sense to me - Oracle is a big, difficult package to learn, so the investment in time is usually a lot more than some of the other vendors.
Luckily, there is more here at InformIT than just SQL Server. There is a lot of information on other platforms, from MySQL to Oracle and even DB2 and PostGres. Just use the "Search" feature to find articles, books and features on those platforms.
