I've done a series here on InformIT that talks about scripting and SQL Server. Lately I've been using PowerShell a lot more.
I'm learning to like it - even though I find some of it a bit convoluted. I think it's a good compromize between having a powerful programming language and a quick, easy to use scripting language.
You'll find that SQL Server 2008, when it comes out, includes not only PowerShell, but you can navigate in the database objects just as if you were on a DOS command line. I'll cover that when the product becomes "real". For now, you can read a lot more about PowerShell here.
