PMP Exam Prep: Multimedia Training and Practice Exams

Topics: Certification

Hi. Have you ever heard of the expressing "eating one's own dog food?" No? Well, step right in and let me tell you all about it.

According to Wikipedia, to say that a company "eats its own dog food" means that it uses the products that it makes. For example, Microsoft emphasizes the use of its own software products inside the company. "Dogfooding" is a means of conveying the company's confidence in its own products."

As you may or may not know, I work for Pearson Education as a media editor. A part of my job involves work on our Pegasus online learning products. Today I would like to suggest in the strongest possible terms that those of you interested in the PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) certification pick up the following product:

PMP Exam Prep: All the Help You Need, From Start to Finish (Video Training for the PMP Certification Exam)

Why? Because I am in your shoes, my friend: I am studying for the PMP credential myself, I am using this product myself, and I love it.

Gah--I hope I am not sounding like one of those cheesy infomercials. Paging Billy Mays! Paging Billy Mays!

Anyway, the PMP LiveLesson is a combination computer-based training product and an online practice exam product that uses the Pegasus testing engine. Because I have lots of experience developing CBTs (CBT Nuggets, VTC, etc.) and developing practice exams (Transcender, PrepLogic), I have a good frame of reference from which to recommend an exam prep product.

The "eating one's dog food" comes in because I consume Pearson products all day long as a customer in addition to helping to create them *cough*Sy Sperling*cough*.

Some students really enjoy the CBT format because they enjoy the virtual interaction with a live instructor. Moreover, the fact that an instructor can sometimes offer multiple explanations for the same topic as opposed to the single explanation proffered in a textbook is sometimes beneficial to some students.

Of course, practice examinations are vital for the vast majority of certification exam candidates. We all know the mantra: content knowledge is one thing, but test-taking skills are "king."

Let me know if you have any questions; I'm always happy to help.
