As a CNBC reporter stated, "Larry Ellison always gets his way". And it is true, for about $8.5B Oracle is acquiring BEA after last year's attempt failed.
You can review the Oracle press release here.
Now the real question: what does this mean to the Java community? Is it a good thing or a bad thing? I think that it will really help Oracle (WebLogic is better, in my opinion, than Oracle Application Server), but I don't know how good it is for our community. What do you think? Will this hurt small and medium sized businesses (SMBs) who couldn't afford (nor wanted) an IBM solution and instead chose BEA? Or will Oracle maintain relationships with these companies and preserve that market? Is this a good think for open source, like RedHat/JBoss, or will things remain status quo?
