Oracle Wins U.S. Regulatory Approval for BEA Purchase

Bloomberg reported yesterday that US Regulators approved Oracle's purchase of BEA. What does this mean to you?

You can read the full article on Bloomberg's web site. One of the points that the Bloomberg author makes is that the purchase "will help the company challenge International Business Machines Corp. for the lead in the so-called middleware software market". Does this mean that Oracle is simply trying improve its underlying technology (Oracle eBusiness is the biggest OC4J customer) or are they going to go after IBM and compete for our hearts (and pocket books)?

It is my earnest hope that Oracle continues to be a player in BEA's market and doesn't just roll WebLogic up into their technology stack, never to be seen again. After all, I started enterprise Java programming using WebLogic 8 years ago and it is a great product.
