Cycling Error Logs

We recently investigated an issue with the SQL Server Error Logs - the text files that SQL Server and the Agent write to - that were growing by a tremendous amount. Once we located the issue, we faced the problem of the size of the logs.

They are “cycled” automatically when SQL Server is started, but I needed them cycled more often, and didn’t want to reboot the server between takes. You can do that with two stored procedures:

sp_cycle_agent_errorlog

and

sp_cycle__errorlog
