Remember the C in Objective-C.
Cocoa uses C structures and functions for things like manipulating points and rectangles, or ranges in strings. Sometimes it is more convenient to use pure C for parts of your code. Use object orientation when it's the best tool for the job, and primitive C code where it is more appropriate.
