Joel Goodling

J. Robert Brown started his career by pursuing a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering in the early 1980s. He moved to Europe in 1987. Here he worked until 1999 under contract to the Department of Defense as a field engineer who supported a variety of computer and software systems that were responsible for tasks ranging from collecting intelligence data to simulating war. While living abroad, he earned a bachelor of science degree in computer science from the European Division of the University of Maryland. In 1996, John was invited to join the technical staff of Los Alamos National Laboratory as a computer scientist. There he remained, until he recently joined the dot-com frenzy with Juno Online Services in New York. His book, X Window System Programming from Scratch, will be published this summer by Que Publishing.
