Bill Douskalis

Bill Douskalis holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering and a master of science degree in mathematics. He has more than 20 years of experience in the architecture, detailed design, and life-cycle project management of computing and communications switching equipment. Bill takes pride in the humble beginnings of his career, when he worked as a field service engineer, troubleshooting minicomputers at the component level with only the help of a plain old oscilloscope at the customer premise. He has spent most of his career as a designer of switching products and services in telecommunications.

Bill consults with major telecommunications carriers on voice and data networking, next-generation IP protocols, service integration, network simulation, and performance estimation of the new packet-based telephone network. He has also consulted with Hewlett-Packard and Agilent Technologies on the challenges of tests and measurements in telecommunications systems and networks. Bill served as the Program Development Manager for the Communications Conference of Design SuperCon (now known as DesignCon) in Santa Clara, California, in 1996 and 1997, and he spoke in worldwide technology symposia hosted by Hewlett-Packard and Agilent Technologies, as well as the VON conference.

He is the author of the books IP Telephony: The Integration of Robust VoIP Services (Prentice Hall PTR and Hewlett-Packard Press, 2000) and Putting VoIP to Work: Softswitch Network Design and Testing (Prentice Hall PTR, 2001). He also has published articles in Internet Telephony Magazine and IEEE Transactions on Communications.
