David Bandel

Allan Smart currently works as the director of Technical Services at Caldera, Inc. He graduated from Utah State University with a BS degree in computer science in 1984. Erik Ratcliffe has been a Linux enthusiast going all the way back to 1991 (starting with Linux kernel version 0.11). He is currently the manager of Technical Support Services at Caldera and does double-duty working on training courses for their upcoming certification program. Tim Bird has worked with Linux since 1993. He left Novell in 1995 to join Caldera, where he has been employed on various Linux programming projects. He currently works for Caldera Thin Clients, Inc. He has previously published articles in the NetWare Technical Journal. David Bandel currently works for Custom Software Services in Bellevue, WA, as the Senior Systems Technician. He works on a wide variety of systems, maintaining Sparc Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, SCO Openserver, NT, and of course, Linux systems. He also works as an independent networking consultant and writes for Linux Journal.

David Bandel earned a master of aviation management degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 1989 at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. He retired from 20 years in the Army in February 1996. While on active duty, David learned many of the basics of Unix[md]he worked on DEC 5000s running Ultrix, and SUN SparcStations running SunOS 4. He has worked on a variety of systems and architectures, including Sparc Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, and SCO OpenServer. In 1993, David began dabbling with Linux, a hobby that quickly grew on him. Currently, David is semiretired and is living in the Republic of Panama, where he writes, does Linux/Unix consulting, and works on his farm. He co-authored QUE Special Edition Using Caldera OpenLinux and Linux Security Toolkit. He also writes a regular column, “Focus on Software,” now entering its third year in the Linux Journal. Robert Napier

Robert Napier has been playing in and around Linux since 1995. His current project is keeping up with KDE2 development. Professionally, he has developed software and supported various Unix-like systems. He currently spends most of his time supporting Perl and writing RTP scripts for Cisco. Rob co-authored Que's Special Edition Using Linux, Fifth Edition.

Jack Tackett, Jr. is the Manager of system Operations for Nortel's Information Network based in Research Triangle Park, NC. He oversees the daily administration of over 50 Linux servers for customers across North America. He has also been a system administrator for a variety of other operating systems, from Unisys Mainframes to UNIX and Windows NT. Jack's books include the best selling Special Edition Using Linux (editions 1-4) as well as Using Visual C++ and The Visual C++ Construction Kit. Steven Burnett is an information technology consultant in Research Triangle Park, NC. His latest degree was a masters in Technical Communication. For the last several years, his professional interests have centered on systems administration, integration, and interoperability. Steven co-wrote Special Edition Using Linux, Fourth Edition with Jack Tackett, Jr.
