In a previous Informit article called Putting Video on Your PSP, I showed you how to transfer video files onto you a Sony Play Station Portable (i.e., the Sony PSP). In this article, I'll show you how to further exploit that 480 x 272 pixel resolution LCD screen.

The Need to Watch TV on the Run

Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition allows you to record television shows and watch them at your convenience. The problem is, with the hustle and bustle in this world, finding the time to see your recorded television shows can be difficult.

But keep on reading, and I'll show you how to use your Sony PSP to view television shows you have recorded on your Windows Media Center home theater PC. This way you'll even be able to watch your recorded television while on your early morning subway commute, thanks to that bright, 4.3-inch,LCD PSP screen.

The complexity of putting Media Center content onto your PSP lies in the format used to store video in Windows Media Center. This file format, called DVR-MS is an MPEG-2 file, which includes metadata about the recorded program you want to store. Accordingly, you can't just copy your DVR-MS files directly to our PSP and expect them to work. Fortunately, there is some dirt cheap and/or free software readily available on the internet that can aid you in converting your DVR-MS files to a PSP-friendly format and then putting your video onto your PSP device. As you may have guessed, I'm going to walk you through using that software.
