Windows 2000 Professional workstations and servers can synchronize their clocks by communicating with a domain controller of their domain. Machines try to synchronize their time by using the Windows Time service to synchronize with the domain controller.

Windows 2000 uses the Windows Time Synchronization Service (Win32Time) to keep the system clocks of machines in a domain in sync. This synchronization service is installed by default on all Windows 2000 computers (Professional and Server). For domain members, the Win32Time service starts automatically.
