Introduction

This article concludes a three-part series that discusses the System Global Area (SGA) enhancements available with Oracle9i. Part 1, "Working with Multiple Block Sizes," discussed the problems associated with a single database block size prior to Oracle9i as well as the support for multiple block sizes in Oracle9i. Part 2, "Sizing the Database Cache," discussed how the database cache can be sized in Oracle9i. The focus of Part 3 is how to use the server parameter file (SPFILE) in Oracle9i for auto-tuning of your Oracle instances.
